It's been just over a year since I last blogged. I miss it! So here I am!
So much has happened in the past year. Austin went through a 6 month program at Learning Rx, where he worked so hard and did fabulous! He made so many awesome gains in many different areas. He still struggles with his reading, but we're working on that every day. We're using All About Spelling, which is technically a spelling program but works wonders for reading as well. Amber's reading improved dramatically last year and I believe it's due in part to that curriculum.
My husband, Chris, was laid off in August. Even though we knew the company was struggling and it was a possibility, we felt as though we were immune to it happening to us. It was really bittersweet. While we saw this as an open door to many new possibilities and believed (still do) that God has a plan for all of this, it was sad for him to leave that company. He had been with them for 12 years! That is most of his adult life. He started as an Electrician's Helper, making $6.50 an hour and worked his way all the way up to Project Manager of the Residential Department.
We enjoyed all of them time we had together after he was laid off. It was nice having him home! He was home for 2 months, when he was then hired at a brand new Lowes that is less than 2 miles from our home. He is now their Electrical Pro. He enjoys the work. It's a welcome break from his stressful position at his previous company. However, the pay is not enough, and we're still looking for other Electrician positions and submitting resumes and applications. We truly are taking it 'One Day at a Time...'
We are in the process of getting our foster care license renewed; and we're also on a waiting list to be a 'Safe Home' for Haitian Orphans, if and when they are sent to the U.S. My heart is hurting so bad for those children! Aside from monetary donations, prayer is the best thing we can for them right now! Please keep them in your prayers.
